David Clarence Weathers, 87, of Holly Hill, passed away at home on July 30, 2025.
David was born on May 7, 1938, in St. George, a son of the late Adrian David Weathers, Jr. and Emily Mae Berry Weathers. For decades, David spent his time and energy on observing the natural world. He was an avid birder who kept a detailed life list and participated in several birding communities across the Southeast. If he heard about a rare sighting, he didn’t hesitate to pack up the car and drive hundreds of miles to see it for himself. He tracked the birds that visited his yard, and built dozens of bluebird boxes and installed them around town, and returned regularly to maintain them.
David’s yard was a constant project—he wanted it to be a space where wildlife could come and go freely. He enjoyed using plants and flowers to brighten his space and attract bees and butterflies to photograph. He spent hours on the back porch with a cup of coffee, camera nearby, waiting for the right moment. He tried out different hobbies over the years, but nothing held his interest like nature photography.
He lived simply and was most comfortable when he was left to his own way of doing things. He wanted his space just the way he liked it, and he was most content when he was out back with his camera in hand, waiting for the perfect shot. He was a carpenter.
David was the life partner of Linda Shuler Bryant for almost 30 years and took excellent care of her while she battled cancer for four years. He was so proud of his daughters and their families.
He was predeceased by a son, Ric David Weathers, sisters, Doris West and Janice Weathers.
Surviving are his daughters, Wendy Diane Weathers (Mark Simpson), Alisha Adrian, Stacy Lanae Thurmond (Jonathan) and Rachel Lyn Snyder (Bradley); grandchildren, Morgan Wahlin, Tristan Wahlin, Allyn Waller, Madi Waller, Adrian Waller, Scott Murray (Sara) and Sam Snyder; brother, Larry Wayne Weathers; and a sister, Linda Dudycha.
No funeral services will be held.
Memorials may be made to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Road, Ithaca, NY 14850, Cornell Lab of Ornithology—Home | Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
