Edward Hill Obituary

Edward Broadus “Eddie” Hill was born on October 10th, 1941, in St. George, South Carolina and entered eternal rest on April 29th, 2026. He was a graduate of Camden Military Academy in 1961 and went on to Palmer College, graduating in 1963. That same year, he married the love of his life, Lonita Fairey, beginning a beautiful marriage that would last more than 62 years.

After college, he returned home to St. George to work in his family’s store. In the 1970’s, he worked for General Electric before opening Hill’s Quick Stop in St. George alongside his beloved Nita. He later worked for Union Camp before retiring.

Pop was a man who could build or fix just about anything. He built the family home on Lake Marion, built garden fences, and was always willing to lend his hands, his knowledge, and his heart. He loved fishing, shrimping, grilling, picking up litter and keeping the community clean, making boiled peanuts, hosting crab boils, and gathering people for fish fries and parties. He especially loved teaching others how to cast a net, and he never left anyone out when it came to taking friends, family, or coworkers out on the lake.

He loved his church, his community, his family, and his grandchildren deeply.

Of all the titles he carried in his life, the one he loved most was “Pop.” He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He watched many sunrises and sunsets from his boat, calling Nita from his radio. He always left her little love notes by the coffee pot and always said she was the best thing that ever happened to him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Simmons Hill and Edna Broadus Hill. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nita; his son, John Edward “Ned” Hill; his daughter, Catherine Lonita Hill; his son-in-law, Greg; and his grandchildren, Stephanie and Carrie.
