John Richard Wimberly

John Richard Wimberly, 78, of St. George, husband of Deborah F. Wimberly, entered eternal rest on Friday, June 5, 2026, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 8, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with

Reverends, Nathan Griffin, Jakie Walters and Steve Mims officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Gavin McAlhany, Austin Perkins, William Perkins, Joshual Blackwell, Mike Metts and Chris High.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Bryan, Gabriel McCall and Scott Blackwell.

The family will receive friends an hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

John Richard was born on September 9, 1947, in Orangeburg County, a son of the late John Lewis Wimberly and Sue Kizer Wimberly.  He was a 1965 graduate of St. George High School and Trident Technical College. He worked as an electrician at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and, following his retirement, continued working as a heavy equipment operator. He was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. As founder and president of the Turkey Pond Hunting Club, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed water skiing and playing the guitar. His deep love for the outdoors brought him great joy throughout his life and was reflected in the many activities he shared with family and friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Donnie Wimberly.

Surviving is his wife, Deborah F. Wimberly; a son, John Richard (Sandi) Wimberly, Jr., all of St. George; a daughter, Tammi Wimberly (Jeremy) McAlhany, Branchville; grandchildren, Gavin McAlhany, Alli Wimberly (Gabriel) McCall, Sara Wimberly (Joe) Bryan; great-grandchildren, Addi Mae McCall and Wills Bryan; and a sister, Emma Sue (John David) Stoudenmire; sister-in-law, Donna Wimberly; niece, Dayna W. (Ryan) Smoak and nephews, Don (Ashley) Wimberly and Roger (Angela) Wolfe.
