John O’Neal Way, 48, of Harleyville, SC, husband of Tammy Crosby Way, passed away on August 17, 2024.
Joe was born on October 14, 1975, the youngest son of the late Charlie Brickman “Bricky” Way Sr, and Annie Jo Murray Way. He was a graduate of Harleyville Ridgeville High School and Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. Joe was a dedicated employee with Terminix for 29 years. Joe and Tammy have been married for 19 years, bringing together their greatest achievements, children Ashley and Chase. Joe’s favorite title was “Pop” given to him by his grandchildren, Emma and Weston. A life-long resident of Harleyville, SC, Joe enjoyed giving back to his community and volunteering his time when needed. He was an active member of First Methodist Church of Harleyville, and a member of Harmony Lodge #61. Joe served as the Commissioner of St. George Dixie Youth Baseball, President of the Dorchester Academy Booster Club, and coached multiple of Chase’s baseball teams, including the Eagles.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved all hunting seasons. Joe was a former member of Sycamore, Leaning Oak, and Good Cheer Hunting Clubs and active member of Alibi and Spring Branch Hunting Clubs. He, along with his son, Chase, were the Co-Owners of Pain and Agony Kennels, where they took great pride in knowing they had some of the best deer dogs in Dorchester County.
In the summertime, Joe could always be found on or around the water. He loved nothing more than being chauffeured around in his own boat by one of his good friends. He was the founder of the Father’s Day Family Fun Run and enjoyed congregating with family and friends around the lake. Fall brought about Joe’s favorite time of year, deer hunting season, which was an all-consuming affair. His favorite accessory was a CB mic. No matter the size of the deer, it always sounded like a “wall hanger” by the excitement in his voice. Saturdays were filled with hunting and cheering for his Gamecocks, likely smack talking to anyone who would listen.
Joe was a planner; no detail too small. His friends and family will never forget his infectious laugh and smile, exaggerated storytelling, and his love for each and every one of them. To know Joe was to love Joe.
Surviving is his Wife, Tammy Way, Harleyville; a daughter, Ashley (Kirk) Rogers, Summerville; a son, Chase Way, Harleyville; grandchildren, Emma and Weston Rogers, Summerville; and Brother, Charlie “Little Bricky”(Craig) Way, Gainesville, Florida.
