John Norris Shieder, Sr., 86, of St. George, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Matthews Baptist Church with Reverends Al Stanley, Ken Frederick and David Drumheller officiating. Burial will follow in the Harbeson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hunter Hartzog, Haden Hartzog, Connor Hartzog, Brent Jackson, Benjamin Jordan and Grant Jordan. The family will receive friends an hour before the service in the church.
Norris was born on June 20, 1939, a son of the late Lawton D. Shieder and Mary Nell Carter Shieder. He graduated from St. George High School and worked as a nuclear inspector at Charleston Naval Shipyard for 35 years, and 19 years at Best Plumbing. He belonged to the South Carolina National Guard, Elk and Moose Lodge. He was devoted to his faith and loved the Lord and was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and attended Canaday’s First Baptist Church until he became homebound. He loved his uncle Monnie Shieder, who taught him fishing and hunting. He enjoyed animals, USC Gamecocks, and Duke, Robin’s retriever. Known for his kindness and friendly nature, he was always smiling and never met a stranger.
He was first married to Betty Mae Carter Shieder, the mother of his children and was the widower of Elaine Hill Shieder. He was predeceased by a son, John N. “Johnnie” Shieder, Jr.; sister, Shirley Jane Shieder; brother, David Shieder and a brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Frederick.
Surviving are his children, Ronnie R. Shieder , Robin (John) Kaelin and Connie (Dean) Jackson; grandchildren, Crystal Hartzog, Brandy (Brent) Jackson, Tiffany (Benjamin) Jordan and Erica Shipmann; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Haden, Connor, Avery, Skylar Mae, Grant, Claire, Lawson, Emma Ann, Elizabeth, William and Sarah; sister, Elaine Frederick; daughter-in-law, Marcia Shieder; and sister-in-law, Pearly Shieder.
