Josephine Ann Judy Padgett Obituary

February 22, 1928 – March 12, 2025

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 12th with her daughter by her side, Josephine Padgett was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord & Savior where she was reunited with her husband of 71 years, Teddy Padgett and her granddaughter, Julie Ballenger who both preceded her in death.

Joanne was the only child of Marion Sims Judy and Louise Ray Judy of St. George, S.C. She graduated from St. George High School and attended Converse College as a voice major. She met and married Teddy and they both worked alongside her father, Sims at Judy’s Rexall Drug Store in St. George. After Sims’ retirement, the couple continued to operate the pharmacy. Joanne loved dancing, golfing with friends, couple’s bridge and especially singing in the choir of the local Methodist church. She passed on her love of music by teaching voice lessons at the family home on Ridge Street.

After she and Teddy retired, they moved to Edisto Beach where their days were filled with playing golf with friends and cruising the local waterways with Teddy as the ship’s captain. After 15 years, they moved to the Stono Ferry golf course community where they continued to enjoy golf until moving to Pinehurst, N.C. to live with their daughter. Joanne spent the last 2 years of her life at Magnolias Assisted Living Center in Santee, S.C.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Judy Ballenger Rogers (Mike) of Pinehurst, N.C., son Ted Padgett (Jo) of Stono Ferry, S.C., grandson Sims Padgett of Sumter, S.C., granddaughter Kellie Bass (Eric) of Johns Island, S.C. and great grandchildren Lily Kunkel, Ian McAvoy, Skylar McAvoy, Samantha Anderson and Evan Anderson.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at St. George Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. and burial afterward. Bryant Funeral Home of St. George is assisting the family.
