Joyce J. Pye, 81, of Greenville, SC, passed away on February 8, 2026, at home with her loving family by her side after a long battle with COPD and dementia.
Born on Wire Road in Grover, SC, to Merch and Eunice Crenshaw Jackson, Joyce was one of six siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers, one sister, and their spouses: Larry Jackson, Terry Jackson (Linda), Brooks Jackson (Margie), Jackson, all of Grover, SC; and Alma Bertrand (Bert) of Chicago, IL. She is survived by her sister, Sonya Walters (Steve) of St. George, SC. She was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Grover.
Joyce married Dunk Pye in 1961 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July. They have two children, Jeff Pye (Stephanie) of Mauldin, SC and Janet Murray (Steven) of Anderson, SC, along with four grandsons whom she adored, Austin Pye, Nicholas Pye, Kyle Brewster, and Kasen Brewster. She also has several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly.
Joyce was known for her quick wit and practical jokes, which brought years of laughter to everyone. She found happiness and joy in the simple things in life. She loved gardening, along with growing and canning vegetables that her family enjoyed during the winter months. Joyce was a fantastic cook, and there was always a spread of delicious homestyle cooking in her kitchen when you were there.
She had a heart for animals and a love for the outdoors. Over the years, she had many beloved puppies, including their current puppy, Peanut, "the baby." She also fostered abandoned squirrels that she would find knocked out of their nests.
Joyce loved to read, play card games, and collect unique items that caught her eye from various places, including her favorite, a statue of a monkey that she named Clyde. She always loved a good "junk store" or yard sale.
Joyce was a dedicated and successful business partner with her husband, Dunk, in the transportation industry for over forty-two years. She continued to work hard and run the office into her mid-seventies.
A family celebration of Joyce's life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank Pruitt Hospice for all the care given to Joyce at home.
Memorials may be made to the children's charities Joyce supported: The Greenville Shriners and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
