Lelon Andrew (L.A.) Driggers, born October 14, 1938, in Summerville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 12, 2026. He was a 60-year resident of Harleyville, where he and his wife built a beautiful life together.
After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea for one and a half years. The achievements he accomplished in his lifetime, through his strong work ethic and remarkable skills, were many. In 1973, he started his own business, Holly Hill Heating and Air, where he became a successful and respected business owner.
His hobby of building racecars was known by many, as he could tear down and rebuild an engine faster than anyone around. He did construction work, building homes and handling plumbing, electrical, and welding jobs — truly a jack of all trades. Over the years, he taught various skills and trades to many young men.
L.A. took pride in his tractors, his farm, and all of his animals. When he got on his tractor and headed into the field, you could often see him returning after dark with the lights shining. He always said the fields and the “earth-like” smell gave him a sense of peace and solace. As he slowed down in later years, he loved sitting on his park bench outside, with friends stopping by for a visit or simply enjoying the outdoors.
Thank you to all who visited him over the past few years. He loved to talk and appreciated every visit so very much. If you visited him on a weekday between 1:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon, you had to watch In the Heat of the Night with him. He always insisted on watching this show — and the volume was deafening.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Walters Driggers; his parents, Andrew William Driggers and Jessie Driggers Pritchard; and his brothers, Clyde Driggers and Aaron Driggers.
He is survived by his children, Darla Driggers Ott (Carroll) of Bowman and Andy Driggers (Jamie) of Florence; three grandchildren, Carroll Bryan Ott II (Cassidy) of Eutawville, Drew Driggers of Florence, and Delainey Driggers of Florence; and lastly, his brother, Stafford Driggers.
A special thank you to the most wonderful and Christian caregivers that God could have given to L.A.: Viola (“Momma”) Felder, Rosetta Green, Ladedra Carson, and Jamel Mack. We are forever grateful for the care, love, and friendship you gave to Dad and to our family. You are now our family. Your friendship, love, and care made his time left here on earth, over these past two and a half years, the best years he had since Linda passed. Always remember he loved each of you, and we know he told you often how thankful he was.
A special thank you to his brother, Stafford, who visited weekly. A special thank you to Bobby Behr for being such a cherished friend to L.A. and for always being a phone call away when needed. Keith and Chad Sweatman, thank you for helping with the lawn maintenance and for your support through the years. Thank you to Edisto Home Care & Hospice for taking care of Dad’s needs as well.
These last few years are times we will cherish and never forget. You will live in our hearts forever, Dad, until we meet again.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 16, 2026 at Harleyville Cemetery with Bobby Behr and Randall Horres officiating. The family will receive friends at 175 Mill Street, Harleyville 29448 following the service.
