Mendel Ray Roberts,88, of Saint George entered eternal rest on July 10, 2026. He was born January 14,1938 to Right William Roberts and Effie Lemacks Roberts of Walterboro.  

Mendel married Margie Uldene Buchanan on May 29,1960. 

Mendel worked in the automotive industry for over 40 years and served in the SC National Guard. He was a member of Old Saint George Baptist Church. Mendel was also a member of Masonic Lodge 61. He enjoyed working in his garden, visiting with his family and fishing.

Mendel was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Jackie, Raymond and Eugene; sisters, Eurel Nettles and Lourie Benton; grandson, Philip Dalton. He is survived by his wife, Dene; his son, Tony (Amanda) Roberts of Saint George; daughters Gereldene (Gary) Auton of Orangeburg, Beth (Phil) Wirsching of Walterboro, Patsy (Tommie) Lipscomb of Ortonville, Michigan; grandchildren, Amanda (Patrick) Grimsley, William Roberts, Lilly (Garrett) Greer, David Auton, Josh (Emily) Auton, Laura Auton; 14 great grandchildren, 3 and soon to be 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14 at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 at Old Saint George Baptist Church with Reverend James Way officiating. Pallbearers will be William Roberts, David Auton, Joshua Auton, Hunter Grimsley, John Grimsley and Mason Grimsley.  Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery.
