Mildred Poplin Hilton Obituary

Mildred Poplin Hilton, 93, widow of L.N. Hilton, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 10, 2023.  


Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronnie Brewer and Palmer Hudson officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be an hour before the service beginning at 1:00 PM in the church.  Pallbearers will be Nathan Behie, Jimmy Behie, Tim Donovan, Wally Durham, Michael Gruber and Robert Hilton.


Mildred was born in Sumter, SC on August 21, 1929, a daughter of the late Hunter China and Olivia Hodge Poplin.  She was predeceased by her brother, William Poplin.  Mildred met L.N., the love of her life, when she was 16 years old in North Charleston.  She began dating him at 18 and they were married December 19, 1951.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother and  loved her family with all her heart.  She was very talented and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, canning, baking and gardening.  She loved cutting grass and going shopping.  She made many clothes for her children over the years and made her daughter Deborah’s wedding dress.  She crocheted afghans and Christmas ornaments including tree top angels and gave them away to many as gifts.  She had a beautiful voice and sang in her church choir for a number years.  Mildred was a member of Zion United Methodist Church for over 70 years.  She was also an active member of Zion’s Womens Society and Zion’s choir. 


In November 2022, Mildred lost her special dog “Lucy”  that was a Christmas gift 16 years ago from her daughters. 


Surviving are her three daughters, Deborah (Bill) Behie, Patsy Hilton and Janet Hilton; two grandsons, Nathan (Lauren) Behie and Jimmy (Melissa) Behie; six great grandchildren, Chandler (Dean) Pafford, Kaylee, Sutton, Maggie, Whitlee, and Grahame Behie; one great-great grandchild, Luke Pafford; and special caregivers and wonderful friends, Miss Viola Felder, Miss Levern Lemon and Miss Rose Jefferson.
