Nettie was born on November 15, 1932 in Charleston, a daughter of the late George Washington Owens and Nettie M. Brooks, and stepmother, Mary C. Fanning Owens. She was a graduate of St. George High School and attended the University of South Carolina. However, after marrying the love of her life, Jerome, she became an avid Clemson fan. She was an active member of St. George Methodist Church, where she was a church hostess, member of the Young Christian Workers Class, former youth worker and enjoyed participating in the Mission Meals program. She loved playing bridge and working in her flower garden. She took great pleasure in sharing in the lives of her grandchildren, especially being able to dance at both of their weddings.
She was predeceased by her sister, Alma Owens Collier, and three brothers, George W. Owens, Jr., Vernon C. Owens, Sr., and Leland S. Owens.
Surviving is her daughter, Mitzi Walters (Ed) Vaimberg; a grandson, David (Olivia) Vaimberg; a granddaughter, Dr. Emma (Steven Kalt) Vaimberg; many loving and special nieces and nephews; her beloved cat, Socksie; and caregivers, Angie Taylor, Malinda White, Tammy Harrison and Connie Johnson.
Memorials may be made to St. George Methodist Church, Missions Meals, PO Box 506, St. George, SC 29477.
