Reverend Dr. Gregory Alan “PG” Butler, 62, of Reevesville, husband of Sybil Dukes Butler, entered eternal rest on Monday, June 1, 2026.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2026, at Reevesville Baptist Church with Rev. Jakie Walters and Rev. George Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Rigby Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Dukes, Eric Horne, Dalton Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Jim Larnish and Pat Mitchum. The family will receive friends an hour before the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.
Greg was born on September 6, 1963, in Biloxi, Mississippi, a son of the late Rick Butler and Molly Virena Sedgewick Butler. He was the store manager of Dixie Auto Parts, Holly Hill, SC, Parts Manager at Truck Service, Inc. in Harleyville and Quality Control Manager at LBT Stainless, Inc., Manning, SC. He served faithfully in the Music Ministry before being called to full time pastoral ministry. He obediently served the Lord at Stono Baptist Church, Johns Island, SC, Philadelphia Baptist Church, Pauline, SC and Four Holes Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC. Aside from his pastoral duties, Greg was Moderator of Charleston Baptist Association, served on the Executive Committee of SBC in Columbia, SC and was a Blue Hat Commander of SC Disaster Relief Team. While at Stono Baptist, Greg was instrumental in establishing the Sea Island Ministerial Alliance and the Barrier Island Free Medical Clinic. Greg never met a stranger and was passionate about serving the Lord and witnessing about his Lord and Savior to everyone he met. He led numerous mission trips and coordinated mission projects for visiting mission teams from other states. PG, as he liked to be called, will forever be remembered for this phrase, “God is Great and He’s Better Than That.”
Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Sybil D. Butler, Reevesville; two sons, Samuel Alan (Rachel) Butler, Simpsonville and Ian McNeill Butler, Reevesville; daughter, Hannah Virena (Justin) Stephens, Mauldin; grandchildren, Eva Mae Stephens, Ilana Belle Stephens, Alijah Rae Stephens, Ezekial James Stephens and Sawyer Alan Butler; a sister, Julie (James) Johnson, Panama City, Fl; a number of nieces and nephews; and his special companion, “Rev”.
He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws, W.M. and Anna Bell Dukes and niece, Megan Williams.
