Shirley Thompson Ackerman, 90, widow of Edward U. Ackerman, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Zion Methodist Church, 1194 Zion Road, Dorchester, SC with Rev. Ronnie Brewer officiating.  The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Shirley was born on September 2, 1935, in Dorchester, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Raymond P. Thompson and Myrtle Lucille Johnston Thompson. She was a former employee of Cracker Barrell and Burger King in Walterboro as well as Walters Fabric Shop.  She enjoyed baking and was a member of Zion Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth E. Ackerman; siblings, T.D. Thompson, Ray Thompson, Betty Kemmerlin and Helen Cooke.

Surviving are her daughters, Sheryl (Hughey) Reeves and Della (Ken) Folsom; a son, Karl D. (Kellje) Ackerman; grandchildren, Shelley Reeves (Kevin) Wilds, Kaitlin (Taylor) Reeves, Ali (LeGette) Reeves Flowers, Kelsie (Brooks) Varn, Alexa Ackerman, Ian (Grace) Folson, Karl David (Kristy) Ackerman, Jr., Randy C. (Randi) Ackerman and Tabitha Ackerman; great-grandchildren, Huxley Wilds, Harlynn Wilds, Roger L. Flowers, IV, Reeves Flowers, Charlotte Varn, Erykah Washington, Lukas Orien Ackerman, Jakob Wilder Ackerman, Makenzie Ackerman and Presley Youmans; and a special niece, Lisa Carrington.
