With deep sorrow and fond memories, we announce the passing of Smith Miles "Tookie" Rhode, 61, who entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 2, 2024, in the comfort of his home on the serene shores of Lake Marion. Born on October 23, 1962, Miles was the cherished son of the late Joe Smith and Ernestine Blewer Rhode.
Miles was a pillar of strength for his family. He leaves behind his dear sister Connie Rhode Serra, devotedly married to Charles Serra, nieces, Heather (Matthew) Taylor, Teresa (Jonathan) McCormick, nephews, Michael Serra and Joseph Rhode, along with great-nieces Claudia Taylor and Riley McCormick, great-nephews Keegan Taylor and Darby McCormick, sister-in-law, Karen Rhode and many cousins. Miles was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Danny Rhode.
Miles was a proud graduate of Holly Hill High School and Trident Technical College, where he earned his diploma and forged lifelong friendships. He dedicated many years of service as the esteemed store manager at Ronnie’s Service Station in Harleyville, SC, where his warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who crossed his path. Miles embraced adventures and eagerly tackled challenges that pushed his boundaries. His zest for life knew no bounds, and amidst his travels, Miles effortlessly befriended everyone he encountered, infusing every gathering with his infectious spirit. He found joy in delving into the intricacies of his family's history alongside his brother, Danny.
A man of unwavering integrity, Miles was a cherished member of Harmony Lodge 61 and a beacon of inspiration as an Eagle Scout. In his leisure, he found solace in the embrace of nature, indulging in his passions for fishing and hunting.
But beyond his accolades and achievements, Miles will be remembered most for his boundless love and jovial spirit. He brought laughter and joy wherever he went, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Though he may be gone from our sight, Miles's memory will forever shine brightly, illuminating our lives with love and cherished moments. Rest in peace, dear Miles, your legacy of love will endure through the ages.
A celebration of Miles's life will take place at Zion United Methodist Church in Dorchester, SC on June 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM officiated by Reverend Ronnie Brewer, where his spirit will be honored and remembered. Burial will be following the services in Rhode Memory Garden. Pallbearers will be Lynn Kizer, Nathan Behie, Britton Moore, Michael Westbury, Scott Bolt, Mike Infinger, Eric Grubert, Andy Pendarvis and Tommy Caroll. In the spirit of Miles's love for adventure, attendees are warmly encouraged to commemorate his life by donning camouflage, hunting gear, or fishing attire.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Zion United Methodist Cemetery fund, , c/o of Leslie Hilton, 1010 Wire Road, Dorchester, SC 29437 honoring Miles's commitment to his community.
