Virginia Haynes Hay, 82, of Harleyville, wife of Allen Mason Hay, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2026, at First Harleyville Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hoover and Richard Knight officiating. Inurnment will follow in Harleyville Cemetery.
Virginia (Ginger) was born on October 27, 1943, in Summerville, a daughter of the late Herbert and Virginia Haynes. She graduated from Harleyville Ridgeville High School, Newberry College and The Citadel. She was a teacher and Head of School for 17 years at Mims Academy. She taught at Knightsville Elementary and served as interim Head of School at Dorchester Academy. She loved teaching, spending time at the beach and traveling with friends and family, especially international travel with her first grandson, Mason. She enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the HR girls and playing bridge with special friends and enjoyed working with her flowers. She was a member of First Harleyville Methodist Church.
Surviving is her husband, Allen M. Hay, Jr, children, Allen Mason Hay, III (Karen) and Suzanne Mizzell (Gary); grandchildren, Mason (Nurcan) Hay, Austin Mizzell (Claire McKay), Alyson Hay and Hayley Mizzell (Josh Chinners); great grandchild, Audrey Hay and special fur baby, Aggie.
She is also survived by brother-in-law, Don Hay; sister-in-law, Brenda (Dickie) Knight; cousins, Mary Beth (Walt) Fawcett and Tommy (Ernie) Owens and numerous nieces and nephews.
